Have I got a lip-smackingly gorgeous white wine for you. There are moments when a wine appears seemingly from nowhere and immediately commands attention. Regueirón is one such wine.
Produced from a tiny Grand Cru-style single vineyard in Éntoma, Valdeorras (meaning valley of gold), this remarkable Godello has rapidly become one of Spain’s most exciting white wines. Tiny in production and extraordinary in quality, it is a wine that consistently surprises even experienced collectors and Burgundy drinkers alike.
The comparisons being drawn are striking, yet entirely justified. Critics and merchants alike have likened Regueirón to fine white Burgundy, combining the texture and composure of Meursault with the mineral tension and smoky flint character of Didier Dagueneau’s Loire legends.
Indeed, Regueirón proved the undisputed star of our recent sold out CVNE Spanish wine dinner at The Parakeet in London, where guest after guest fell completely in love with the wine. It was the bottle everyone continued discussing long after the dinner had finished — and the wine most attendees wanted to secure afterwards.
The 2023 vintage may be the finest yet.
Cultivated on steep terraced vineyards of slate and schist soils, the wine captures both the richness of inland Valdeorras and the freshness of Galicia’s Atlantic influence. Hand harvested in tiny 15kg cases, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak and large foudre, Regueirón is a wine of precision, texture and remarkable complexity.
Vinous describes the 2023 as:
“A richly textured wine, inspired by the elegance of Burgundy.” – 93 points
Whilst Luis Gutiérrez writes in The Wine Advocate:
“More Burgundian, with a fine texture, contained ripeness and subtle minerality, with a chalky and tasty finish. This should age nicely in bottle.” – 94-95 points
Ferran Centelles for JancisRobinson.com awarded the wine 18/20 points, describing it simply as: “a world-class expression of Godello.”
The wine itself is thrilling: orange blossom, candied citrus, peach skin and grapefruit layered over wet stone, crushed slate and delicate oak spice. The palate is simultaneously textural and electric, with saline minerality, bright acidity and exceptional persistence.
Only 2,500 bottles and 60 magnums were produced for the world, and we have secured just eight 6-bottle cases available immediately duty paid in the UK.
At £168 per case including VAT and duty, this represents one of the most compelling fine white wine discoveries we have encountered this year. I thoroughly recommend this delicious white to you and if yo don’t like it, I’ll happily take the remaining bottles back for my own collection!
