Domaine Evremond - Edition I - Case of 6 (in bond)
I am thrilled to introduce you to one of the most anticipated releases of the year: Domaine Evremond Edition I – the first-ever English Sparkling Wine from the iconic Champagne House, Taittinger.
This landmark project began in 2015 when Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and Patrick McGrath MW envisioned creating a premium English sparkling wine. After an extensive search, they secured a remarkable site in Chilham, Kent – “The Garden of England” – where south-facing chalk slopes and optimal shelter provide the perfect conditions for growing exceptional fruit.
In partnership with Mark Gaskain, a third-generation fruit farmer, and under the meticulous care of Taittinger's top viticultural and winemaking talent, 60 hectares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier have been planted. The result is nothing short of extraordinary.
I visited the vineyards at the end of September and was bowled over not just by the wine’s quality, but the sheer scale of investment in perfect chalky terroirs.
Domaine Evremond Edition I is a classic cuvée comprising 55% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Meunier. With 80% of the fruit from 2020 and 20% from 2019, it was bottled in June 2021 and disgorged in August 2024, benefiting from over three years on the lees. The result is a wine of remarkable finesse, complexity, and elegance – already garnering high praise from those fortunate enough to taste it.
The first critical reviews are, quite frankly, outstanding for a first vintage, with Vinous awarding 93 points writing, “A citric, bright lemon and green apple freshness defines the lively nose of the wine. More air allows lemony Viennoiserie to peep through, as well as an ozone breeze. Fine, creamy bubbles immediately distinguish the slender palate, where more lemon freshness is bedded in the smoothness of that exemplary mousse. An impressive and elegant debut, svelte and clean-cut, especially considering the Pinot Noir dominance of the wine. Châpeau”.
This is not just a wine but a milestone in English winemaking and a statement of Taittinger’s unwavering commitment to quality. For this inaugural release the neck labels will proclaim ‘Edition I”, a genuine collectors’ item as well as a vinous gem when English Sparkling Wine’s cache continues to rise and auction prices of other first edition ESWs go through the roof.
Availability is strictly limited, and demand is expected to be immense.
If like me you love excellent sparkling wine then this is not one to miss out on; genuine quality, a meeting of Champenoise expertise and English viticulture setting a new golden standard for English Sparkling Wine.
